How long have you been in Amsterdam?

Four years ago I packed my bags and moved to Amsterdam for love. I spent so much time visiting my girlfriend who is from the city, that it was hard not to also fall in love with this metropolitan village.

If you have a day off, what do you want to do?

Going on tour and cycling around the canals is what I love to do. This is definitely the best way to see the city and discover hidden spots. One of my favorite areas to go to is the Plantage neighborhood. It is home to Amsterdam’s botanical gardens ‘Hortus Botanicus’ and many other historical buildings.

What is your favorite thing to do in Amsterdam?

Something that is really special to me is the winter time in Amsterdam. And not those dark, wet and cold days, but the crisp blue sky winter days. The city becomes quite enchanting with the nights closing in earlier and the lights of the houses around Amsterdam turn it into a Van Gogh painting.

The best thing is to wander around the city’s small canals and grab a hot choco. There is also the possibility that the canals freeze over which sends the city into a ice skating frenzy that takes you back in time. In the evening it’s time to grab a special winter beer and unwind in a ‘Gezzelig‘ Amsterdam brown cafe.

How long have you been in Amsterdam?

During my internship in Amsterdam I fell in love with the city. When I finished my internship I was not ready to leave this vibrant city. So you’ll understand my excitement when I found a job and have never left since. Amsterdam is a city that never sleeps. There is always something to do, no matter what day it is or if the weather is bad.

One of the first things you will notice in Amsterdam is the vibe. Everyone is very open and friendly.

If you have a day off, what do you want to do?

Whenever I am feeling adventures, I often hop on my bike and go of track. That way I always discover something new. A boat ride through the canals is indispensable. My favorite route is a long the Amstel river and towards the Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. After my cycle tour, I usually go for lunch at the Butcher shop on the Zeedijk. It’s a typical Dutch butcher shop located in the China town of Amsterdam. They offer all kinds of fresh and tasteful sandwiches, good for every moment of the day. My personal favorite is their signature one, the ‘broodje Zeedijk’.

What is your favorite thing to do in Amsterdam?

On a nice summer day me and my friends love to go to the Bilderdijkpark and have some drinks at Flora. After that we go for a cruise and end up in the Chin Chin club or Tokyo for a karaoke night. Like I said, Amsterdam never sleeps!

How long have you been in Amsterdam?

Over five years ago I moved from Rome to Amsterdam. I wanted to start an adventure and discover new things. I wanted to experience the reality of a smaller capital, I wanted to see if Amsterdam was really the city that my friends and I always dreamed about. And I can honestly say, I was not disappointed.

If you have a day off, what do you want to do?

From the first day I arrived to this city, my place to be is the Jordaan. I often go here to wander around and go to my favorite spots. The Jordaan used to be a working class area, and is now the home of many trendy cafes and boutique bakeries. There are many beautiful spots and the vibe you feel when you walk through the streets is amazing.

Walking through Amsterdam is never a dull exercise. One moment you are right in the middle of the crowd and the next moment you turn the corner and find serene surroundings. You’re walking through a nice and calm park, something less touristic. Any where you look something different is happening.

The people in Amsterdam are unique as well. Trust me, no explanation needed when you walk through a residential area. You can find people taking out their own sofa on the street to enjoy the fresh air coming from the canal while having some drinks with friends, and see someone else reading on their doorstep after a busy day at work.

What is your favorite thing to do in Amsterdam?

Depending on the day, I always enjoy a nice walk around the local markets. Like the Noordermarkt in the Jordaan. Or take a nice stroll in the park and read a book. These really are my happy moments !
